Nothing is good that remains unexplained, and history is not built on what is unsaid.

Mesa Selimovic (1919-1982)

Twenty seven years after the death of the Yugoslavian president, differences of opinion began to emerge on who Josip Broz Tito was. Was he perhaps “a woman”, was he Polish, was he a Jew, a freemason, an Austrian, an outcast son of aristocracy, a Ukrainian Communist, a British secret agent, Stalin’s deposed communist, a CIA agent, a farmer from Kumrovec …? A taboo!

Who he was?

All of these riddles represent the sediment of our history and any attempt to discover the truth or come to terms with the history that has already been established is transformed into a process which annuls our individuality and identity. Outwitted in such a way, we search for the solution in a global identity or in a national conviction.
